Grader Operator – Finish - PENTICTON, BC

Sureway Construction is one of Alberta’s largest heavy construction contractors, with over 50 years’ experience, involved in; civil earthworks and grading, utilities and offsite, mine operation and aggregate extraction.

We are looking for a Grader Operator - Finish in the PENTICTON area for a 1-2 month project. Quality candidates will be offered the opportunity to also work in our Alberta and Western Canada operations after project completion.

Job Type: Full Time, project basis. Option to extend to Full-time, seasonal for the right candidates

Schedule: 10+ hours per day, 6 & 1, OT after 8hr/day or 40hr/week

Location: Initial project in PENTICTON. Potential options for Western Canada

Pay Range: $34-38 per hour depending on experience

Essential: Hard-working, reliable, flexible with schedule, ability to work in physically demanding conditions

Requirements:   

• Personal Reliable Vehicle
• CSA approved steel toed boots with 6” ankle support

Pre-employment:

• Drug and alcohol testing (swab-based test)
• Successful completion of Company Orientation and site-specific orientation

Grader Operator Responsibilities:

• Precisely operate grader blade to windrow gravel to the center of the road.
• Operate grader controls to regulate height and angle of the grader blade and lower scarifier to loosen packed soil to permit grading.
• Ensure a sound understanding of the issues involving ground disturbance.
• Drive the grader in successive passes over working area, observing reference stakes or hand signals of other workers, to level the surface to the specified grade.
• Feel levers and listen to equipment sounds to determine the depth of the cut.
• Operate grader on public roadways, maintaining proper awareness of ones surroundings.
• Finish grade base surface preparation to within half an inch.
• Perform routine cleaning and maintenance to ensure smooth operation of the grader.
• Ensure grader is in proper gear, and is not moving too fast for working conditions.
• Demonstrate an understanding of grades and interpret roadway plans and draw.
• Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.

Grader Operator Qualifications:

• Must have a minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience as a Finish Grader Operator with base prep for roadways and subdivisions. 
• Knowledge of road construction materials, road construction processes and industry requirements.
• Understanding of computerized controls and electronics.
